Hotels and Restaurants hold the record
The Hotels and Restaurants directories hold stable profiles for eligible places. A profile may contain identity, location, official links, editorial context and a documented publication history.
A directory profile does not, by itself, state that a place has been inspected, verified, recommended or ranked. Its purpose is to preserve and organise the underlying record without altering the source database.
GEM, Fork and Anchor ratings are current determinations
A GEM, Fork or Anchor distinction is issued only against the applicable hotel, restaurant or cruise standard and a stated assessment scope. One, Two and Three indicate rising levels of distinction within that category.
The rating record identifies the standard version, evidence basis, decision date, validity period and current status. The category standards publish score weights, minimum evidence and hard gates.
- A rating expires unless renewed through the current method.
- A change of identity, ownership, concept, location or operating condition may trigger review.
- A GEM, Fork or Anchor distinction cannot be bought, accelerated through sponsorship or bundled into a commercial agreement.
- A licence to display an award mark is available only after the distinction has been conferred and does not alter the public result.
Best 100 is an annual editorial ranking
The World’s Best 100 compares eligible places for one annual edition. It is evidence-led: documented place records establish the field, structured editorial review tests the evidence, and comparative judgement determines the final order.
The ranking is not a permanent grade. A previous position does not guarantee eligibility or placement in a later year, and a place holding a GEM, Fork or Anchor distinction is not guaranteed a place in the ranking.
- The eligible field is frozen for each edition.
- Material evidence is checked before comparative judgement begins.
- Conflicts and commercial relationships are recorded and managed.
- The final list is limited to one hundred places in the active category.
- No paid route exists into consideration, inclusion or rank.
Evidence, language and version control
Official records, direct confirmations, dated operating information and documented first-hand assessment carry more weight than unattributed claims or promotional copy. Sources are assessed for recency, relevance and independence.
Standards are published by version. A later version may refine scope or evidence requirements, but it does not rewrite a historical decision. Corrections amend errors; they do not silently replace the record.
