A position is true of its published edition. It is not permanent status and does not carry forward automatically.

02 · Eligibility
What can enter the field
Eligibility establishes a credible field. It does not guarantee a position and a previous appearance carries no advantage.

A current hotel
The property must be open, operating and available to the travelling public during the edition’s eligibility window.

One hotel, one identity
Renames, conversions and shared complexes are resolved so that one position refers to one defined hospitality experience.

Sufficient evidence
The file must be current and substantial enough to support comparison beyond reputation, publicity or a single celebrated feature.
- 04
Global relevance
The hotel must make a credible case within an international field while remaining legible in the context of its own place and purpose.

Six views of one hotel
The comparative record is structured, but the final order remains a reasoned editorial decision rather than a mathematical result.

04 · Ranking process
From field to final order
The order is tested as one complete editorial argument, not assembled from isolated regional or commercial allocations.
Build the field
The hotel record, material openings and reopenings, regional research, professional reporting and the historical archive establish the eligible field.
Resolve current facts
Identity, operation, leadership, location and material changes are checked before comparative work begins.
Assemble the evidence record
Official facts, independent professional reporting, documented experience and direct visits where they occurred are separated by source and date.
Make the editorial judgement
Editors read the complete stay across the six comparative areas and set out the case in writing. No public numerical grade determines the final order.
Challenge the order
Close positions are tested across region, property form, evidence depth and the reason each hotel matters in that year.
Lock and publish
The final one hundred, their order and written rationales are signed off together. The position then belongs permanently to that edition.
05 · Safeguards
What protects the list
Published rules keep discovery broad, evidence disciplined and final judgement outside commercial influence.
No public vote
Popularity, social reach and reader voting do not determine the field or the order.
No paid route
Advertising, licensing and partner work do not buy a place or improve a position.
No borrowed ranking
Other lists and guides may inform discovery. Their positions are never imported or substituted for our judgement.
Visits stated accurately
A property is described as visited only where an editor or commissioned contributor made that visit. Research-led assessment is identified on its own terms.
Conflicts controlled
Editors and contributors disclose material commercial, employment, investment and personal relationships and recuse where required.
Corrections preserved
Factual errors are corrected transparently. A published position changes only where a material publication error invalidated the recorded result.
