The evidence informs. Editors decide. The edition preserves the result.

01 · Definition

A continent, read on its own terms

Heritage and modernity, city precision and remote seclusion are compared by the strength of the complete stay—not by adherence to a single style of luxury.

01

Evidence-led

Current facts, source quality, professional reporting, direct experience where available and the historical record create the basis for judgement.

02

Editorial

No formula can decide why one complete hospitality experience matters more than another in a particular edition. Editors own that comparison.

03

Edition-specific

A position is true of its published edition. It is not permanent status and does not carry forward automatically.

The list asks which one hundred hotels express the highest level and widest character of Asian hospitality in 2025.

02 · Eligibility

What can enter the field

The field is continental, current and deliberately varied. Nationality, scale and hotel form do not guarantee representation.

  1. 01

    Within the 2025 Asia field

The hotel must operate in East, Southeast or South Asia, or within the Asian Indian Ocean field defined for this edition.

  2. 02

    Open and bookable

The property must be operating during the eligibility window with a stable hospitality identity available to the travelling public.

  3. 03

    One hotel, one experience

Renames, conversions, shared complexes and distinct wings are resolved so each place represents one clearly defined stay.

  4. 04

    Evidence beyond reputation

The record must support comparison across service, accommodation, place, dining, wellbeing and experience—not fame alone.

03 · Comparative criteria

Six expressions of Asian hospitality

The framework allows palace hotels, urban landmarks, ryokans, island retreats and mountain lodges to be compared without forcing them into one aesthetic.

  1. 01Edition

    Guest experience & service

Assurance without theatre: intuitive care, operational depth and a quality of welcome that survives every point of the stay.

  2. 02Edition

    Design & sense of place

Architecture and interiors with a distinct identity, judged by how convincingly they belong to their city, island, landscape or cultural setting.

  3. 03Edition

    Accommodation & privacy

Rooms, suites and villas considered for comfort, proportion, quiet, views and the degree to which privacy feels effortless.

  4. 04Edition

    Destination & cultural depth

The power of the address and the hotel’s ability to open a richer route into the place around it.

  5. 05Edition

    Dining, wellbeing & experience

The restaurants, rituals, restoration and experiences that give the stay range, rhythm and lasting character.

  6. 06Edition

    Enduring distinction

Originality, authority and continued relevance—the qualities that separate a defining hotel from a merely fashionable one.

04 · Ranking process

From field to final order

The order is built as one Asian edition, while close decisions are tested against regional context and the purpose of each hotel.

01

Build the continental field

Established authorities, significant openings and reopenings, regional research and the historical hotel record create the longlist.

02

Resolve place and identity

Location, operating model, cultural context, leadership and material changes are checked before comparison.

03

Assemble current evidence

Official facts, independent professional reporting, documented experience and direct visits where they occurred are separated by source and date.

04

Compare the complete stay

Editors judge service, design, accommodation, destination depth, dining, wellbeing and lasting distinction as one experience.

05

Test the continental order

Close positions are challenged across countries, regions and hotel forms without using geographic quotas to manufacture balance.

06

Publish one record

The final hundred, their order and the written reason for every inclusion are approved together as the 2025 edition.

05 · Safeguards

What protects the list

Published rules keep discovery broad, evidence disciplined and final judgement outside commercial influence.

01

No public vote

Popularity, social reach and reader voting do not determine the field or the order.

02

No paid route

Advertising, licensing and partner work do not buy a place or improve a position.

03

No borrowed ranking

Other lists and guides may inform discovery. Their positions are never imported or substituted for our judgement.

04

Visits stated accurately

A property is described as visited only where an editor or commissioned contributor made that visit. Research-led assessment is identified on its own terms.

05

Conflicts controlled

Editors and contributors disclose material commercial, employment, investment and personal relationships and recuse where required.

06

Corrections preserved

Factual errors are corrected transparently. A published position changes only where a material publication error invalidated the recorded result.
